Press Archive - A portrait of the singer celebrating

It's been the Festival of Maria Venuti over the past few days as Confidential's favourite chanteuse celebrated her birthday. La Venuti kicked off the weekend by presenting a gong at the DVD Awards at the State Theatre on Friday night, with MC Jimeoin leading the audience in a rendition of Happy Birthday. Yesterday; Venuti lunched with a group of friends at Otto, in Woolloomooloo. Radio man John Laws, the restaurant's co-owner, and his wife, Caroline, approached the birthday girl's table to pass on their best wishes. "Sam Neill's here too, darling, but he hasn't come over to say hello yet," Venuti said. To cap off this very special birthday ("Let's just say I'm ageless"), a portrait of Venuti by Nafisa Naomi was entered in the Archibald Prize on Friday. It's the second portrait that's been painted of Venuti, but what excites her about it is that "it goes beyond my flashy exterior and sees me for what I also am - a loving mother." The award presented by Venuti on Friday night was for Best Use of Special Features. Funny, that.
